Technologies: Gore-Tex membrane for hunting

Gore-Tex it the world famoust woterproof and breathable membrane. Name Gore-Tex (abbreviated GTX) is a registered trademark od W.L.Gore&Associates. The famous membrane is made with tetrafluoroetylene polymer in a porous form. Membrane can be laminated with many kinds of fabrics, usually nylon and polyester. It's special features results that Gore-Tex is used for outdoor clothing and boots to make them water and windproof.


Thermomechanically expanded PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene) with urethane coating is has about 9.000.000 pores per square inch. Each of which is approximately 20000 times smaller than a drop of water, but many times larger than water vapour, which can pass through, so Gore-Tex membrane is breathable. It means it can transport out moisture from your skin. Resulting material is also windproof.

Main application of membrane is outdoor activity clothing and trekking shoes. It's also often used for hunting clothes and boots production. Gore guarantee to keep your skin completely dry, even after intensive rain.

The main problem for hunting clothing is, that it not only should be waterproof and windproof, but also ought to be very silent. Each producer uses own solutions how to make laminated membrane more silent. Membrane is often laminated with fabrics with peach finishing, or microsuede. It should be very soft, but also very durable to protect membrane. Even producers do their best, lot of hunters don't like noisy and hard fabrics, they choose rather traditional wool, waxed cotton or things like that. 

There are less problems for hunting boots, most of them has waterproof membrane, usually it is the most popular Gore-Tex. Membrane can be connected with fabrics or with leather like in Meindl ComfortDry technology.
